Lewiston store searched by police as part of fraud investigation
LEWISTON (WGME) -- Lewiston police executed a search warrant at a store on Lisbon Street Friday. Police say the warrant was part of an extensive fraud investigation.
This all happened around 11 a.m. at the Mogadishu Store in Lewiston, which is a Somali-owned grocery shop. The owners say the store is back open.
The Sun Journal reports that several witnesses saw at least one person being detained and items being taken from the store.

The owner says police took the computer where people pay with their credit cards. She says customers will now have to pay in cash for the time being.
Lewiston police say the investigation is not related to any immigration enforcement actions, it’s related to alleged fraud.
The Lewiston Police Department has released very little information but did say the Department of Agriculture was on scene helping to assist them.
This is the third case of fraud in Lewiston over the past month.

Lewiston police say the investigation regarding this case is ongoing, and they are not going to comment.
This all comes as Lewiston prepares for a possible increase in ICE activity. The owners of the store say they didn’t want to speak with CBS13 on camera because of that.
