'Donald J. Trump' terminal proposed by architectural firm for Dulles Airport redesign
WASHINGTON (7News) — An international architectural firm has submitted a proposal to redesign the Washington Dulles International Airport that includes plans to create a new terminal named after President Donald Trump.
Bermello Ajamil & Partners, LLC in partnership with Zaha Hadid Architects, is among dozens of firms that have submitted concepts to the Department of Transportation.
It comes after Trump announced Dec. 2, 2025, that his administration planned to rebuild Dulles Airport.
That same day, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said they would start requesting bids from contractors for the project.

"We are pleased to submit this response to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Request for Information (RFI) regarding the revitalization of Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD). We share the Department’s vision for a bold, inspiring, and future ready gateway worthy of the Nation’s capital, and we appreciate the opportunity to contribute concepts, delivery strategies, and financing approaches that can help realize that ambition," Bermello Ajamil & Partners wrote in their submission.
The firm released a 65-page document that included renderings of its design concept, as well as financing, timing, limitations and mitigation.
The most notable change would be the "Grand Arch." It's a new grand terminal with an arched roofline, and it would be called the "Donald J. Trump Terminal."
The firm said it wanted to build a modern terminal processor to improve check-in and baggage experience. It would also established a new entry point for the airport.

In addition, the firm is also pitching the idea of a "Y-shaped pier" where all international arrival aircraft can dock, and passengers from these flights would follow separate routes to arrival facilities.

Renderings submitted also show redesigns of departure, arrival and baggage halls, an airside garden within a terminal, as well as new store concepts.
The Department of Transportation has not commented, or accepted the plans from Bermello Ajamil & Partners as of now.

"The Airports Authority appreciates the administration’s interest in making improvements to Washington Dulles International Airport. We look forward to seeing the results of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s request for information and working collaboratively with the administration. We always embrace new ideas for Dulles, which is the fastest growing international gateway airport in America (year-over-year through September YTD).
