President Donald Trump said he will be announcing Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell's successor on Friday.

"It's a person that won't be too surprising to people," Trump said.

He added that the person is "respected" and" known to people" in the financial world.

Trump teased that the person was on his "reasonably" short list.

He told the press at the red carpet for the film release of "Melania."

On Wednesday, Powell kept interest rates steady at 3.6%. Cuts were made three times in 2025.

When asked, Powell advised any successor to stay out of politics.

"Honestly, I'd say a couple of things. One is stay out of elected politics. Don't get pulled into elected politics. Don't do it," Powell said.
