Police make arrest in Barrington stabbing

A person was stabbed in Barrington Tuesday night, Jan. 20, 2026. (WJAR)

The Barrington Police Department said it made an arrest in connection with a stabbing that occurred on Jan. 20.

John Ciliberto was charged with with one count of felony assault and one count of assault on a person over 60 causing serious bodily harm.

The department said that the stabbing occurred around 5 p.m.

A 67-year-old man went to Rhode Island Hospital and reported that he had been stabbed in the chest.

The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

An investigation allegedly identified Ciliberto as the suspect and a warrant for his arrest was obtained.

He was taken into custody without incident but was taken to the hospital with "injuries unrelated to his arrest."
