Man, 18, held without bail in shooting of two women in Providence
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WJAR) — New details emerged Wednesday about the shooting involving three teens on Ayrault Street in Providence.
Gabriel Laboy, 18, appeared in Providence District Court at about 2 p.m. after surrendering to police Tuesday night.
Laboy is facing serious charges after prosecutors say he was playing with a loaded gun, causing disastrous results.
He was charged with two counts of felony assault, one count of possession of a firearm while committing a crime of violence, one count of carrying a firearm without a permit, one count of criminal negligence, and one count of discharging a firearm in a compact area.
The two female victims are 18 and 19 years old.
Both victims told law enforcement in interviews at the hospital that they were laying on the couch when Laboy took out a gun, was "playing with it" and "joking" while "telling her to get off her friend" before he fired at the two victims.
According to the state, the victims were "inside the apartment on the couch" when Laboy "had a firearm and then shot it."
Both victims say they know Laboy.
At the scene, police collected shell casings on the couch from the shooting.

The court hearing revealed that Laboy has encountered law enforcement and the court system before. On Dec. 12, he was in court on a separate gun charge.
The judge initially set bail for $100,000 but then ruled Laboy to be held without bail as an alleged bail violator.
His next court date in this case will be Monday.
