The Cumberland Police Department said that a 48-yearold man faced several charges after a police pursuit on Jan. 27.

Jay Kenealy was charged with DUI of liquor, reckless driving and other offenses against public safety, duty to stop for an accident resulting in damage to an attended vehicle, weapons other than firearms prohibited, obstructing an officer in the execution of their duty, and eluding a law enforcement vehicle in a high-speed pursuit.

The department said officers allegedly stopped Kenealy in the area of Mendon Road and the Route 295 on/off ramps for motor vehicle violations.

Officers alleged Kenealy may have been operating under the influence and then fled from the stop.

During the pursuit, Kenealy allegedly struck several snowbanks, a Cumberland and Lincoln police cruiser as well as two other vehicles, and also threatened to harm himself with a firearm.

Kenealy was eventually stopped on Scott Road and a search of the vehicle allegedly found a knife and two "martial arts axes" but no firearm.

The occupants of the four vehicles that were hit were not injured.

Police said that Kenealy had an active bench warrant out for his arrest.
