Various organizations around the state partnered to purchase and distribute coats, hats, mittens and scarves.
This comes in time for bitter blast expected to begin Friday night.
"We look at this as sort of like some basic health care for people because if you can stay warm in the winter months, obviously you’re going to be healthier, so this is a preventative thing as well, but obviously, it’s a human rights thing as well. People should be warm during the winter," Bratt Davie, a spokesperson Providence Community Health Center, said.
The distribution began at 8:30 a.m., and it will last through the supplies are gone.
