Family of man allegedly assaulted by 4 juveniles seeks justice

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WJAR) — The family of a man who police say was beaten to death by a group of minors on Manton Avenue in Providence is calling for justice.
Rony Alonzo, 51, died Thursday night. Police said earlier in the week an 11-year-old and three 12-year-olds knocked him to the ground, then repeatedly punched, and kicked him before running off.
Police said the four kids accused in the attack were arrested Tuesday. They were charged with felony assault and conspiracy, but now those charges could be upgraded.
"Justice for my brother, because he didn't bother anyone, absolutely no one," said William Alonzo in Spanish. "Please, because the family is suffering because of how they treated him. He didn't deserve to die like that, he didn't deserve it."
Loved ones told NBC 10 Rony was a good man who did not deserve what happened to him.
"He was a person who didn't bother anyone. He didn't look for trouble. He stayed away from problems," said Rony's sister-in-law.
Police have not revealed a motive for the attack. NBC 10's legal analyst says he believes the juvenile suspects could eventually be tried as adult.
This tragedy comes on the heels of another for the same family. In November, the family says Rony's son Luis was killed in a crash in Warwick.
Rony's family wants to bring his body back to Guatemala. They've set up a GoFundMe to help cover expenses.
