Trump praises president of Mexico, says they had a productive phone call
WASHINGTON (TNND) — President Donald Trump on Thursday praised Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo as an intelligent leader, adding that they had a productive phone call.
“I had a very productive telephone conversation with President Claudia Sheinbaum, of Mexico,” Trump wrote on TRUTH Social.
“It went extremely well for both Countries.”
He said a majority of the conversation was about trade, drug trafficking and the southern border.
“We will be speaking again, soon, and ultimately, setting up meetings in our respective Countries,” his post concluded. “Mexico has a wonderful and highly intelligent Leader — They should be very happy about that!”
Sheinbuam Pardo posted about the meeting on X.
“We held a productive and cordial conversation with the President of the United States, Donald Trump,” she wrote on X. “We continue to make progress on trade issues and the bilateral relationship. We agreed that both teams will continue working together. I also had the pleasure of greeting his wife Melania, whom I met during my recent visit to Washington.”
Following the kidnapping of deposed Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, Trump hinted at potentially using military action against cartels from Mexico.
“We’ve knocked out 97% of the drugs coming in by water and we are going to start now hitting land, with regard to the cartels,” he said during a Fox News interview.
Earlier this month, Sheinbaum talked to Trump and said intervention with Mexico wasn’t necessary.
