Woman threw weight at gymgoer who she believed 'her partner was involved with': cops

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (WKRC) - A woman allegedly threw a weight at a gymgoer who she believed her "partner was involved with" in an attempt to cause injury.
According to a release from Mark Herman, Harris County Constable for Precinct 4, officers were dispatched to a 24 Hour Fitness on January 7 regarding an aggravated assault call.
"Upon arrival, deputies learned that a female suspect assaulted the complainant inside the gym after recognizing the complainant as someone her partner was involved with," the release read. "During the altercation, the suspect threw a weighted plate toward the complainant’s head, attempting to cause injury."
The woman was identified by police as 25-year-old Aralyn Martinez, the release said. Martinez and the victim did not know each other personally, and were just at the gym at the same time, according to local outlet KHOU. Martinez reportedly rushed the victim with the weight without any provocation.
The victim allegedly avoided serious injury by ducking out of the way just in time.
"We do know a 25-pound weight, or any weight, can be a deadly weapon depending on where you hit the person," Precinct 4 Captain Juan Flores said.
Martinez was arrested and charged with aggravated assault.
