The Groton Police Department said that officers rescued a man who had fallen into freezing water at Spicer's Marina in Noank on Jan. 28.

The department said that the original call reported a man had fallen through the ice and was losing feeling in his limbs.

The first responding officer located the man, who was being supported by his friend, with his head above the water.

The officer then called for backup and helped hold the man up as rescuers worked to clear ice and safely remove the man from the water.

The man was transported to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
