Homeowner fights off intruder with frying pan; both stabbed in front yard battle

The home where the home invasion occurred is on Brooklyn Avenue Northeast, just west of Cowan Park, in Seattle's Ravenna neighborhood.

A homeowner defended himself with a frying pan when an intruder broke into his home and grabbed a kitchen knife early Friday, according to officials.

The 61-year-old man was inside with his teenage daughter when the man broke into the home at around 2:40 a.m. The house is located on Brooklyn Avenue Northeast, just west of Cowan Park, in the Ravenna neighborhood.

When the intruder entered the home, he armed himself with a kitchen knife, and the father grabbed a frying pan to defend himself.

During the home invasion, the burglar fought with the homeowner, chased him outside, and stabbed the victim in the leg. During the fight in the front yard, the suspect was also stabbed and left with life-threatening injuries, according to the police department.

When officers and Seattle Fire Department (SFD) medics arrived, the homeowner was treated by firefighters and then taken to the hospital in stable condition.

The suspect, who is in critical condition, was also treated by SFD and then taken to Harborview Medical Center, where he is under armed police guard.

The homeowner's 15-year-old daughter, who texted 911 to report the burglary in progress, was not hurt.
