WESTMONT, Ill. (WKRC) - A man was taken into custody after he allegedly stabbed a pregnant woman to death during a Facebook Marketplace meetup.

According to the Downers Grove Police Department, 19-year-old Nedas Revuckas of Westmont, Illinois, is facing multiple charges after 30-year-old Eliza Morales was found stabbed to death at a burning apartment in Downers Grove, Illinois.

A report from WMAQ-TV, citing prosecutors, states that the victim's husband had listed their 1994 Ford Ranger for sale on Facebook Marketplace over the weekend, with Revuckas responding to the listing that same day and picking the vehicle up.

Authorities said Revuckas then arranged to exchange the license plates and the bill of sale for the truck on Monday, the station reported.

During the meeting, surveillance video from the victim's building reportedly captured Revuckas arriving to meet her at around 5:30 p.m., with the victim handing him a screwdriver at one point during their interaction, per WMAQ.

Minutes later, the suspect is reportedly seen moving to the victim's apartment with the screwdriver in his hand, and at approximately 5:47 p.m., the door to the victim's unit is seen opening and closing.

The victim is later seen in what appears to be a struggle with the suspect before the door slams, the report states.

The door handle can then be seen turning from the inside, appearing as if someone is trying to open the door to get out, and approximately ten minutes later, smoke is seen rising out of the apartment unit, WMAQ reported.

According to The New York Post, the victim's elderly pit bull mix escaped through a sliding door during the fire and was taken to an animal hospital after being found stabbed between her eyes.

First responders arrived at the apartment at 6:09 p.m. and found the victim dead with approximately 70 stab wounds to her head and neck, per WMAQ's report, which cites an autopsy.

An investigation was launched, and law enforcement located Revuckas at a home with his girlfriend after noticing the Ford Ranger in the driveway, the report states. During an interview with investigators, the suspect reportedly confirmed that he had been at the apartment but claimed he had left through the main doors, per The Post.

Police said Revuckas later confessed to murdering Eliza after investigators discovered bloody clothing within the residence, WMAQ reported. Prosecutors said the suspect also admitted to starting the fire inside the apartment, the report states.

"The defendant indicated he stabbed the victim 10 times. The defendant was upset about the condition of the dark red 1994 Ford Ranger pickup truck that he had purchased and decided to take out his frustration on Eliza," the proffer said in court, per the outlet. "The defendant got into a fight with Eliza.

The defendant said that during the fight, Eliza mentioned that she was pregnant."

Morales was the mother of a two-year-old who was not present at the time, according to the reports.

Revuckas was arrested and charged with the following, according to police:

  • First Degree Murder – Intent to Cause Death or Great Bodily Harm
  • First Degree Murder – Forcible Felony: Armed Robbery
  • First Degree Murder – Forcible Felony: Aggravated Arson
  • Intentional Homicide of an Unborn Child
  • Armed Robbery
  • Aggravated Arson
  • Aggravated Cruelty to Animals

The suspect was taken to the DuPage County Jail, where he is being held.

A GoFundMe was launched to help raise money for the victim's family. The campaign aims to raise $40,000, and has raised more than $30,000, thanks to support from others.

"From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to everyone who has donated, shared, and lifted our family up during this unimaginable time. Your kindness, prayer, and support have reminded us that even in the darkest moments, compassion still exists," the GoFundMe caption reads in-part.

“I’m gonna spend the rest of my life missing her,” the victim's husband told reporters with WLS.
