Brown hires global consulting firm for safety and security reviews
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WJAR) — Brown University announced it will be working with consulting firm Teneo during two reviews of the university's safety and security policies after the deadly campus shooting in December 2025.
Executive Vice President for Planning and Policy Russell Carey said the reviews would include "a complete assessment and evaluation of campus safety in the period leading up to the tragedy, the preparedness and response on Dec. 13, and the emergency management response in the aftermath."
The vice president said that Teneo has "extensive experience" with public safety assessments, including working on the 2025 attacks in New Orleans.
The reviews will involve both the campus and local community.
Carey said the first review would be an "After-Action Review," which will include an evaluation of campus safety procedures up to the shooting, while the "Comprehensive Campus Safety and Security Assessment" will look for long-term improvements to the university's policies.
"The work builds on current measures underway to enhance security — including an on-site physical security assessment of buildings, access points, cameras and technology, and other security infrastructure — and will inform any longer-term improvements throughout the spring semester and beyond," Carey said.
