White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt briefed the media on Monday following the fatal shooting of 37-year-old Alex Pretti by a federal official in Minneapolis on Saturday amid growing unrest between demonstrators and Immigration Customs and Enforcement (ICE) officers in the area.

On Monday President Donald Trump revealed that he and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz had a good call and are on a "similar wavelength" following the incident.

“It was a very good call, and we, actually, seemed to be on a similar wavelength,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

During Monday's press conference, Leavitt outlined a three-part plan Trump has proposed for the state of Minnesota saying it is the president's "hope and wish for the chaos to end today."

First, government officials would be required to turn over undocumented immigrants who are currently incarcerated in state or local jails and prisons to federal authorities, along with any individuals who have active warrants or known criminal histories for “immediate deportation.”

Second, state and local law enforcement agencies would be required to transfer undocumented immigrants who are arrested by local police.

Finally, local police would be required to assist federal authorities in locating, apprehending, and detaining undocumented immigrants who are wanted for crimes.

If Governor Walz and Mayor Frey implement these common sense cooperative measures, that I will add, have already been implemented in nearly every single other state across the country, customs and border patrol will not be needed to support ICE on the ground in Minnesota," Leavitt said.

In his Truth Social post, Trump also revealed that Border Czar Tom Homan would be going to Minnesota later Monday evening to oversee ICE operations in the state.

During the press conference a reporter asked if Homan's visit was an indication that the president is dissatisfied with current ICE response in the state, to which Leavitt responded "no" adding that "Mr. Homan is doing an exceptional job."

Leavitt maintained that the fatal shooting of Pretti is still under investigation when several reporters questioned her about the conflicting stories and videos of the incident circulating.

There are investigations into what took place on Saturday," Leavitt said. "The president supports those investigations and as I've said repeatedly, he wants to see them move forward.

According to Leavitt, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) have teamed up for an investigation. She also stated that there is an internal Customs and Border Protection (CBP) investigation into the deadly incident as well as what is occurring on the ground in Minnesota.
