Cape Cod potato chips moving manufacturing off Cape Cod
CAMDEN, N.J. (WJAR) — The Campbell's Company said that it planned to cease operations at its plant in Hyannis where Cape Cod and Kettle Brand potato chips are manufactured.
The plant will be closed in April and manufacturing will be moved to plants in Wisconsin, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania.
"Today, the Hyannis plant produces only 4% of the total annual volume of Cape Cod chips, and the site no longer makes economic sense for the business," the company said. "Production will be transferred to more modern and efficient plants, enabling a more agile and flexible manufacturing network while maintaining the tradition of using high-quality, carefully selected ingredients that define Cape Cod and Kettle Brand chips."
The company said that 49 employees would be impacted and would be provided with "separation benefits, job placement support and guidance on how to access state assistance programs."
Campbell's acquired the Cape Cod chip company in 2018.
The company was originally founded in 1980 and opened the Hyannis plant in 1985.
