Two federal agents were reportedly placed on leave following Alex Pretti's deadly shooting.

Citing the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Fox News broke the story on Wednesday afternoon, noting that the move is standard procedure "and should not be viewed as any suspicion of wrongdoing."

DHS previously said Pretti, a 37-year-old ICU nurse, was fatally shot on Saturday after he approached federal officers while carrying a 9mm semiautomatic handgun and two magazines. Officials did not say whether the weapon was brandished.

The Associated Press confirmed that two federal officers fired Glock pistols during the shooting.

The media outlet reported that investigators with CBP’s Office of Professional Responsibility made the determination after a preliminary review of body-worn camera video and agency documentation. The agency is required to report in-custody and certain other deaths involving its agents and officers to Congress.

The official said officers tried to take Pretti into custody and he resisted, leading to a struggle. An agent yelled, "He's got a gun!" multiple times, the official said, with a Border Patrol agent and a Customs and Border Protection officer both firing their weapons.

Fox News noted that the agents were temporarily taken off field duty.

In wake of Pretti's shooting, as well as the fatal shooting of 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good on January 7, Democratic leaders have called on DHS Secretary Kristi Noem to step down from her position.

“The country is disgusted by what the Department of Homeland Security has done,” House Democratic Reps. Hakeem Jeffries, Katherine Clark, and Pete Aguilar, said in a joint statement.

"Kristi Noem should be fired immediately,” the Democrats said, “or we will commence impeachment proceedings in the House of Representatives.”
