The Salem Police Department said that a Coventry man was arrested after allegedly striking an officer with his vehicle during a narcotics investigation on Jan. 15.

Lucas David Fulcar-Bautista, 33, was charged with trafficking in more than 10 grams of Fentanyl, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (motor vehicle), assault by means of a dangerous weapon (motor vehicle), speeding, disorderly conduct, leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, and failure to stop for police.

The department said that Fulcar-Bautista allegedly drove over a curb, onto a sidewalk and struck the officer, and also caused another officer to have to take "evasive action."

The injured officer was taken to a local hospital for medical treatment and was released early the following morning.

A multi-state search was then initiated and Fulcar-Bautista was arrested on Jan. 21 in Lawrence.
