Plant City's Providence location to close next month

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WJAR) — The Plant City location in Providence is shutting down on Feb. 8, six and a half years after it first opened.
In a statement sent to NBC 10, ownership blamed reduced numbers of guests and decreased sales for the business on the closure of the westbound Washington Bridge, saying that guests have told them that they have avoided their South Water Street location due to traffic backups over the past two years.
“We’ve been resilient throughout the last years — including opening just nine months before COVID," Plant City owner Kim Anderson said. "We are proud of how our team adapted. We have served hundreds of guests each day and built a special and successful business. Unfortunately, the challenges related to access to the waterfront area have made it impossible to continue.”
Current employees, according to Anderson, were told about the closure first, and have received resources and training from the Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training.
The closure of Providence's location leaves Plant City's Warwick and Barrington locations as the Rhode Island brand's only two.
