The New Bedford Police Union said that a 20-year-old was arrested for allegedly being in possession of a stolen firearm during a motor vehicle stop on Jan. 27.

Tyler Dubois was stopped while operating a vehicle after police allegedly found information that he was in possession of a firearm.

Dubois was stopped for "civil motor vehicle infractions" and removed from his car.

The union said a search allegedly found a Smith and Wesson M&P Shield 9mm firearm, with seven round of ammunition.

The gun was reportedly stolen out of Fall River.
