Dighton man sentenced to 10 years in wrong-way crash that hospitalized 6
EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WJAR) — Attorney General Peter Neronha said Friday that a Dighton man was sentenced to serve 10 years at the Adult Correctional Institutions for a crash that hospitalized multiple people in 2022.
Cary Guy, 33, was originally pled guilty to four counts of driving under the influence resulting in serious bodily injury, four counts of driving to endanger resulting in serious bodily injury, and two counts of driving to endanger resulting in physical injury.
On May 24, 2022, Guy drove his vehicle in the wrong direction on Interstate 195 east and struck multiple other vehicles head-on.
Police said that Guy refused to take a field sobriety test when he was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, and a search warrant allowed officers to test his blood, which returned a blood alcohol content of .109.
Neronha said that the crash seriously injured four people and hospitalized six overall.
Guy was sentenced to serve 17 years, with 10 years to serve at the ACI and seven years of probation, alcohol counseling and treatment, and a six-year loss of license upon release from the ACI.
He previously pleaded guilty to two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon and multiple vehicle related charges in Fall River Superior Court in 2023.
He was sentenced to three years in state prison for those charges.
