Award-winning musical "Suffs" is making a stop at Providence Performing Arts Center this week.

The show follows American women that fought for the right to vote.

Monica Tulia Ramirez, who plays Inez Miholland, said she feels a sense of responsibility in bringing an important part of history to life.

"I feel a lot of weight, it’s a responsibility every night to tell it. And week by week, when you stage door after, everybody has something to say with what’s going on with the climate of the nation, and state by state, if there’s something that’s going on in that state, people have an emotional response to that, and it’s our responsibility to also engage with that and bring truth and honesty to the story, and that’s an incredible responsibility," she said.

Tulia Ramirez said she also has a lot of fun, especially with the cast.

"The thing that grounds me and brings me the most amount of joy in those hard weeks and hard nights is the cast, because we do genuinely have this friendship, or sisterhood, or brotherhood that brings us lot of joy, and we laugh in those hard moments," she said.

Livvy Marcus, an Easton-native that plays Doris Stevens, said she is having the time of her life touring with "Suffs."

"It’s the gift of my artistic life to do a show that takes place over seven years. The growth that I feel over the course of the show is amazing," she said.

"Suffs" will play at PPAC through Sunday.

More about the musical and tickets can be found on the PPAC website.
