Trump says he had a good call with Gov. Tim Walz, they are on a similar wavelength

President Donald Trump on Monday said that he and Minnesota Democratic Gov. Tim Walz had a good call and they are on a similar wavelength.

“Governor Tim Walz called me with the request to work together with respect to Minnesota,” Trump wrote on TRUTH Social Monday morning.

“It was a very good call, and we, actually, seemed to be on a similar wavelength.”

Trump said he told Gov. Walz that border czar Tom Homan would be calling him.

“I told Governor Walz that I would have Tom Homan call him, and that what we are looking for are any and all criminals that they have in their possession,” Trump’s post continued.

“The Governor, very respectfully, understood that, and I will be speaking to him in the near future.”

He said that Walz was happy that Homan was coming to Minnesota later this evening.

“We have had such tremendous SUCCESS in Washington, D.C., Memphis, Tennessee, and New Orleans, Louisiana, and virtually every other place that we have “touched” and, even in Minnesota,” Trump’s post concluded. “Crime is way down, but both Governor Walz and I want to make it better!”

On Monday afternoon, Walz issued a statement on his call with Trump, writing, "I had a productive call with President Trump earlier today. I told him we need impartial investigations of the Minneapolis shootings involving federal agents, and that we need to reduce the number of federal agents in Minnesota."

The President agreed to look into reducing the number of federal agents in Minnesota and to talk to DHS about ensuring the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is able to conduct an independent investigation, as would ordinarily be the case," Walz wrote on X.

Trump also announced Monday that he had a "good telephone conversation" with Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey.

I just had a very good telephone conversation with Mayor Jacob Frey, of Minneapolis. Lots of progress is being made! Tom Homan will be meeting with him tomorrow in order to continue the discussion," Trump shared on social media.

Frey shared details about the conversation with Trump, writing on X that he "appreciated the conversation."

I expressed how much Minneapolis has benefited from our immigrant communities and was clear that my main ask is that Operation Metro Surge needs to end. The president agreed the present situation can’t continue," Frey wrote.

Frey said some federal agents would begin leaving the area on Tuesday.

"Minneapolis will continue to cooperate with state and federal law enforcement on real criminal investigations — but we will not participate in unconstitutional arrests of our neighbors or enforce federal immigration law," Frey wrote. "Violent criminals should be held accountable based on the crimes they commit, not based on where they are from."

Frey said he will continue to work with "all levels of government to keep our communities safe, keep crime down, and put Minneapolis residents first." He will also meet with Homan on Tuesday to discuss next steps.

Anti-ICE protests have been increasing in the Minneapolis area following the deaths of Alex Pretti and Renee Good, who were both shot by federal agents.

Pretti was shot over the weekend while protesting Trump’s immigration policies and the Trump administration is reviewing what happened.

Good was shot earlier this month. A spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security said she was shot because she tried to run a federal official over with her car.
