afterbeing released from custodyafter impersonating another inmate. (Credit: Robeson County Sheriff's Office.)ROBESON COUNTY, N.C. (WPDE) — A murder suspect is back in custody on Thursday after impersonating another inmate, according to Robeson County Sheriff Burnis Wilkins.
Zion Britt, 26, of Lumberton was captured around 5 a.m. at the Motel 6 on Lackey Street in Lumberton.
On Wednesday night, a Robeson County inmate housed at the Columbus County Detention Center was released from custody after impersonating another inmate who was scheduled for release, according to Wilkins.
Wilkins added that Britt was seen Tuesday around 9:15 p.m., wearing a black zip-up coat with a hood, dark sneakers, and a pink shirt hanging from his back pocket.
Britt had been transferred to Columbus County for safekeeping and was being held in connection with a 2021 homicide.

He is charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy.
The investigation into Britt's escape is ongoing and being conducted by the Columbus County Sheriff's Office.
The Columbus County Sheriff's Office, Lumberton Police Department and U.S. Marshals Service Carolinas Fugitive Task Force assisted with the capture.
