Minneapolis man charged after allegedly spraying Rep. Ilhan Omar with apple cider vinegar
(TNND) — Anthony J Kazmierczak has been accused of assaulting Representative Ilhan Omar (D-MN), at a town hall earlier this week in Minneapolis, according to a federal complaint filed on Thursday.
Kazmierczak used a syringe filled with a mixture of apple cider vinegar and water to spray the congresswoman, court documents state.

Omar, who has been a frequent critic of the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown in Minnesota, had just finished calling for the resignation of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, when Kazmierczak approached her with the liquid, the affidavit states.
After squirting Omar with the liquid, Kazmierczak appeared to say, “You’re splitting Minnesotans apart.”
The account recorded by an FBI agent said the liquid stained the congresswoman’s clothes and may have reached her face and right eye. A picture of the syringe Kazmierczak accused of using is included in the affidavit.
The FBI agent stated in the affidavit that he interviewed a “close associate” of Kazmierczak’s, who told the agent that years ago Kazmierczak said “somebody should kill” Rep. Omar. The associate was not named in the court filing.

The affidavit also points out a political cartoon critical of Omar that Kazmierczak had shared on his Facebook in 2021. His social media posts show that Kazmierczak was highly critical of Democrats.
Following the incident, Kazmierczak, a Minneapolis resident, was tackled by security officers and taken to a local jail, according to officials. He is scheduled to make an initial court appearance on Thursday and has not yet entered a plea.
Kazmierczak was charged with a federal crime related to assault or intimidation of federal officers. If convicted, Kazmierczak could face a maximum prison sentence of one year, unless the assault involved “physical contact with the victim,” in which case the maximum sentence is 8 years in prison, according to the statute.
Omar’s office has not responded to the incident and the representative continued with her town hall following the assault, afterwards saying that she felt “OK.”
“I don’t let bullies win,” Omar wrote on social media.
