INDIANAPOLIS (WKRC) — An Indiana woman was accused of sitting on a baby’s face in an alleged attempt to suffocate the child.

According to WXIN, 37-year-old Kendra Lee Proctor was taken into custody after she allegedly attempted to suffocate a child.

The report states police responded to a home in Indianapolis around 10:30 p.m. Sunday after receiving a report of a child molestation incident. Upon arrival, officers were met by Proctor, an adult witness, and a juvenile witness, with the adult witness telling police that Proctor had sat on a one-year-old baby’s face while undressed from the waist down.

The adult witness claimed the suspect began acting strangely after watching a “Godly” movie, as well as asking strange questions once the movie had ended, according to the report. A short while after the movie ended, the adult witness said she entered a room and allegedly discovered Proctor sitting on the baby’s face, WXIN reported.

The adult witness said the child was “screaming bloody murder” and noted Proctor was not wearing pants or undergarments at the time. She then told police that she “beat the (expletive) out of” Proctor after finding her sitting on the baby’s face, according to the report.

The baby was checked by medics at the scene and released, according to the outlet. When speaking with investigators, the adult witness claimed Proctor said she “thought this is what you wanted me to do” and “this is what I’m supposed to do,” before going on to say she could have a better life. Authorities later determined the suspect may be schizophrenic based on conversations with witnesses.

Proctor agreed to an interview and reportedly admitted to trying to suffocate and kill the baby, telling investigators she attempted to kill the child so the adult witness would kill her. Police noted Proctor “couldn’t give a coherent answer” when asked to elaborate on her reasoning, WXIN reported. Proctor also reportedly told police that sitting on the child had sexual intent and claimed doing so would help her obtain money, according to the report.

The suspect also allegedly admitted to saying she would "sacrifice" the juvenile witness, as well as touch her inappropriately if she "didn't stop saying crazy (expletive) to her," according to the outlet.

Proctor was arrested and preliminarily charged with the following, per WXIN:

  • Molesting a child under the age of 14 (felony)
  • Attempted murder (felony)

She was taken to the Marion County Jail and the county prosecutor's office will determine any official charges, according to the report.
