A protester in Eugene, Oregon, left one federal officer with bite marks and bruising after the scene turned chaotic Tuesday evening.

The Department of Homeland Security told KVAL on Tuesday evening that federal officers were conducting a "coordinated, targeted arrest of an individual who broke the law and was charged with disorderly conduct" at the Eugene Federal Building.

During the operation, a "separate identified individual" approached an officer holding a longboard and began shouting profanities at the officer before spitting on him. DHS notes that assaulting a federal officer is a felony and federal crime.

When officers attempted to take the individual into custody, they bit the officer on the arm, which caused bleeding, swelling and bruising.

"Secretary Noem has been clear: Any rioter who obstructs or assaults law enforcement will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law," DHS wrote.

Protests were gathered at the federal building to honor Alex Pretti, the ICE nurse shot and killed by federal agents in Minneapolis last weekend.

Pepper balls and other chemical irritants were reportedly used, and at least three individuals were reportedly detained.
