Rhode Island continues to prepare for what's currently forecasted to be one of the biggest snow storms in recent memory.

It’s been years since Rhode Island has seen a snow storm of this magnitude, but state officials say they are prepared.

Things like rock salt, shovels, ice scrapers, eggs, milk, bread and water are essential for a storm like this.

Roads across the state will be covered in snow and plows intend to get ahead of it as much as possible.

Rhode Island Department of Transportation Director Peter Alviti said the state will use both RIDOT plows and private vendors.

"The primary vendors we have contracted with back in the fall before the snow season comes. So we have an active list of vendors we call upon, and we have on previous storms that we have, that are there every time we call on them," Alviti said. "These are tried and true folks that are out there with our team working side by side to get the roads cleared. We appreciate their hard work."
