James Beard Foundation releases restaurant, chef semifinalists

Semifinalists for the James Beard Awards were announced on Wednesday.
Several Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Connecticut restaurants were recognized.
Established in 1990, the James Beard Foundation’s Restaurant and Chef Awards recognize exceptional talent and achievement in the culinary arts, hospitality, media, and broader food system.
Rhode Island Semifinalists:
- Oberlin in Providence, Outstanding Restaurant
- Jasmine Watson of Audette in Newport, Emerging Chef
- Claudine in Providence, Best New Restaurant
- Jesse Hedberg of Club Frills in Providence, Outstanding Professional in Cocktail Service
- Loma in Providence, Best New Bar
Three chefs were also nominated for a regional award.
- Kevin O'Donnell of Giusto in Newport.
- Annie Parisi of Jayd Bun in South Kingstown.
- Derek Wagner of Nicks on Boardway in Providence.
Restaurant and chef nominees will be announced on Tuesday, March 31.
Winners will be celebrated at the James Beard Restaurant and Chef Awards Ceremony on Monday, June 15, 2026 at the Lyric Opera of Chicago.
