'Shark Tank' star Barbara Corcoran played 'dead in a coffin' for her 70th birthday
That’s one way to celebrate!
“Shark Tank” star Barbara Corcoran staged her own surprise funeral for her 70th birthday, shocking her guests at the party.
“I had the best party of the century. No doubt about it,” Corcoran said on the “Boardroom” podcast. “My friends were going to give me a surprise party and I got wind of it from my good girlfriend."
She said her friend Liz “always spoils things” and tipped her off that the party was being planned, so Corcoran decided, “‘I’m going to turn the tables and surprise them.’”
While friends were planning her birthday party upstairs at hew New York penthouse, Corcoran was downstairs staging the ironically grim scene.
She had her brother move everyone downstairs where “They walked into the living room and found me dead in a coffin.”
“Boardroom” host Damien Scott asked if her friends really didn’t know about her plans, and she swore they didn’t.
“No, I had set up the whole room as a funeral parlor,” she responds. “The chairs, the nuns, the priests, the rabbis — everybody there. And they all said what they liked about me, thinking I was dead, and what they didn’t like about me.”
She continued, “But you know, everybody talked about me. How many people, if anyone, do you know who hears what people say about them after they’re dead? I got to hear it all.”
Corcoran insisted no one knew about the funeral aspect, saying, “I could hear the gasps.”
“I had my eyes closed and I didn’t move a second. Everybody was aghast that I was dead. They really thought I was dead — and I laid there dead for ten minutes. It was great.”
After the drama, Corcoran sprang to life and partied for her milestone birthday.
“I got up and danced. I looked beautiful,” the now 76-year-old said.
