Mysterious 'American Idol' contestant proposes to girlfriend after jaw-dropping audition
“American Idol’s” premiere episode featured a HUGE reveal of a contestant along with a once-in-a-lifetime proposal.
Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie and Carrie Underwood began their first day of auditions with a contestant whose voice is already widely known on social media from his girlfriend posting videos of him singing in the shower. Her videos focus on her reactions to his singing.
Contestant Bryant Thomas admits to the judges that his fans have never seen his face as he begins to sing Phil Collins’ “Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now)” behind a pillar in the audition room.
By the end of his audition, Thomas walked in front of the judges table who were all very happy with what they heard and eventually saw.
“Your voice is outrageous. It really is, even over there, behind a pillar. You can just feel so much emotion and life in your voice,” Underwood said.
Bryan complemented Thomas’ “really soulful voice,” while Richie elaborated more, “I think we got ourselves a hit record here. You’ve got star power vocals here, man.”
Thomas earned a “yes” from each judge, meaning he will go to Hollywood Week, which takes place in Nashville this season.
Now this is where things get gooood.
Thomas brought out his girlfriend, Alyona, along with his family and loved ones who joined him for his audition. He proceeded to get on one knee to propose to Alyona.
"My journey started with you and is gonna end with you," he said, adding that he planned to propose whether he won over the judges or not.
Alyona said yes!
"I've been behind the scenes, and I feel like I'm made for the stage and the spotlights," he said. "So I'm ready to assume my role in the front of this boat and take us all the way home.”
“American Idol” airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC and streams on Hulu and Disney+ the next day.
