Former NBA star Lamar Odom is back in the headlines, this time for an arrest in Las Vegas that’s raising fresh concerns about his long, public battle with addiction.

Odom, 46, was arrested on Saturday, January 17, and booked on multiple charges, including allegedly driving under the influence, speeding, and making an improper lane change, according to arrest records obtained by Us Weekly. Odom was reportedly driving roughly 40 miles over the speed limit and had difficulty staying in his lane before being pulled over by police, according to TMZ.

Jail records show that Odom was granted bail and is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, March 17.

The incident comes after years of Odom speaking openly about his struggles with alcoholism, drug addiction, and unresolved childhood trauma. In a 2019 interview, Odom reflected on losing his mother at a young age, calling it a wound that “may never fully heal,” while emphasizing that recovery made him grateful to be alive.

Odom’s substance abuse issues became widely known during and after his brief marriage to Khloé Kardashian. In 2015, he nearly died after suffering a drug overdose at a legal brothel in Nevada, leaving him comatose for several days. Kardashian temporarily halted their divorce to care for him during his recovery.

The former Los Angeles Lakers forward says he was surprised to find Kardashian at his bedside when he gained consciousness. “It was definitely a moment of relief. I didn’t even know what had just happened,” he said at the time. “She played a major role in me getting my memory back. She would bring pictures of my mother and my grandmother. I kept thinking, ‘Am I paralyzed forever? Am I mute forever?' It was scary s***. Faith got me through.”

Following his rehabilitation, Kardashian refiled for divorce, which was finalized in 2016. Despite their split, the former couple reunited nearly a decade later on a 2025 episode of "The Kardashians," where Kardashian referred to Odom as “the love of my life,” while acknowledging that their marriage faced challenges that ultimately couldn’t be fixed.

As Odom prepares to face the legal consequences of his latest arrest, fans and critics alike are once again watching to see whether this moment marks another setback or a turning point in his ongoing journey toward sobriety.
