Yes, there is a cat museum in North Carolina, and it’s one of just two in the United States!

The museum was founded in 2017 by the late Dr. Harold Sims, known locally as Cat Man due to his dedication for rescuing abandoned or unwanted felines. It contains what is believed to be the largest collection of house cat memorabilia in the country.

The place is filled to the brim with kitty-related collector’s items, ancient artifacts, cat art, and even a real mummified medieval cat, proving that humans have loved domestic cats for a long, long time.

Even if you’re more of a dog person, this cat-centered attraction in the foothills of Western North Carolina is a must-stop spot for all animal lovers passing through the area!

The museum’s address is 5063 US Highway 441 South, Sylva, NC 28779, and it's open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 12 p.m. to 5 p.m Sunday. Parking is free in the adjacent lot.

Admission costs $10 for adults, $8.50 for college students, $7.50 for teens ages 13-17, and $5 for children ages six to 12. Kids under five get in for free.

Bonus: Proceeds from admission fees and donations help support the museum, as well as programs in the community such as a low-to-no-cost spay and neuter clinic and the Catman2Shelter, which, according to its website is “a private, no-kill, cage-free cat shelter, sanctuary & adoption center located in Cullowhee, North Carolina.”

Call 828-476-9376 or visit the museum’s website for more information.
