Amazing Itineraries: Meow Wolf Denver, a must-see immersive experience

Amazing America is exploring every corner of the country, uncovering out-of-the-way places and one-of-a-kind experiences you won’t find anywhere else.

Amazing America’s Hunter Hulbert loves to discover unique destinations, and he struck paydirt on his Amazing Itineraries: Colorado Adventure, Day 1.

Let’s just say his first stop is a real “trip.” Step inside Meow Wolf Denver Convergence Station, where a psychedelic surprise awaits as four unique worlds collide.

More than 300 artists contributed to Meow Wolf Denver, including more than 100 from Colorado. Each brings a unique creative perspective to help build the immersive, otherworldly experience. At times, it may feel like aliens from the 1970s called and want their stuff back — but Meow Wolf manages to give a wink and a nod to the past while creating a new and evolving experience.

Meow Wolf began in 2008 as an underground artist collective in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and has since grown into an immersive art empire. Its installations include the original House of Eternal Return in Santa Fe; Omega Mart in Las Vegas, a surreal, interactive grocery store inside AREA15; Convergence Station in Denver — Hunter’s favorite; The Real Unreal in Grapevine near Dallas; and Radio Tave in Houston, an immersive world built around a fictional community radio station. Another installation is planned for Los Angeles.

The name “Meow Wolf” was created randomly when one of the founders pulled two words out of a hat.

There’s even something special for locals. Hidden Easter eggs throughout the installation reference Colorado culture and history. Each visit is different, thanks to branching paths and secret rooms, and most visitors won’t see everything in a single trip — even after several hours. Comfortable shoes are recommended, and the heart of an explorer is a must.

Stay tuned as Hunter continues his Amazing Itineraries adventure with more stops.
