Witness says he would trust professional reporters over influencer during MN fraud hearing
WASHINGTON (TNND) — A witness during the House GOP Judiciary Committee’s hearing on Minnesota fraud said he would trust professional journalists over influencer Nick Shirley’s video.
Besides Shirley, another witness testifying before the committee was Dylan Hedtler-Gaudette, who is the director of government affairs at Project on Government Oversight.
During the questioning portion of the hearing, Georgia Democratic Congresswoman Lucy McBath asked Hedtler-Gaudette if he did a follow-up review of Shirley’s video on Minnesota fraud.
He responded by saying he looked into what journalists at CBS News and professional oversight practitioners in Minnesota did to try to counteract Shirley’s video.
“They had a difficult time substantiating what Mr. Shirley was claiming to be true in his video when in fact they found countervailing evidence including having been provided security footage by one of the daycares of children being dropped off the day was supposedly there,” Hedtler-Gaudette said.
“I think in my view I would have to air on the side of believing the professional journalists at CBS and the professional oversight practitioners at the inspector general office,” he said.
Last month, Shirley made headlines for going to Minnesota and filming multiple daycare centers that appeared vacant.
Shirley alleged that millions of taxpayer dollars were funding these daycare centers that appeared empty.
