Court grants conditional release to two immigrants after ICE agent's story lacks support

Two illegal immigrants, one of whom was shot in the leg by an ICE agent last week, were granted conditional lease after an FBI investigation revealed that the ICE agent’s account of the altercation surrounding the two men’s arrest could not be corroborated.
Julio Cesar Sosa-Celis was shot in the leg by an ICE officer, who said he shot him in self defense while he was being hit by shovels and brooms.
An FBI agent testified in court Wednesday that no witnesses from that evening could corroborate the ICE agent’s story that he was attacked while on the ground, CBS News reported.
Sosas-Celis and Alfredo Alejandro Aljourna, who was the target of the ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations arrest, had fled into a residence following a car chase from the scene of the ICE operation.
According to the account of the two men, the ICE agent fired his weapon ten feet away from the men while they were closing the front door of a home.
Officials eventually were able to gain entry into the home after calling for reinforcements from an ICE specialized tactical team, leading to a total of four people taken into custody.
A stay on the judge’s ruling will last until noon Thursday. The men also have ICE detainers placed on them.
