Federal officer shot person in leg after being attacked with a shovel in Minneapolis
(TNND) — A federal officer shot an illegal immigrant in the leg after being attacked with a shovel during a Minneapolis arrest, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
According to DHS, a federal agent was in the process of arresting an undocumented immigrant during a routine traffic stop. The individual crashed their vehicle into another car and then fled.

When the law enforcement officer caught up with the immigrant, a struggle ensued, and two other individuals came out of a nearby apartment and attacked the agent with a snow shovel and broom handle, DHS said. When the fleeing immigrant got free, officials said they began striking the officer with a shovel and a broomstick.
"Fearing for his life and safety as he was ambushed by three individuals, the officer fired a defensive shot to defend his life," DHS reported. "The initial subject was hit in the leg."
DHS said the attacked officer and the illegal immigrant are both in the hospital, and both attackers are in custody.
This attack on another brave member of law enforcement took place while Minnesota’s top leaders, Governor Walz and Mayor Frey, are actively encouraging an organized resistance to ICE and federal law enforcement officers," the DHS statement reads.
Officials said "hateful rhetoric and resistance against men and women who are simply trying to do their jobs must end," while citing a 1,300% increase in assaults on federal law enforcement officers.
This comes after Gov. Tim Walz slammed the Trump administration for its action in Minneapolis.
"They're pulling over people indiscriminately, including U.S. citizens, and demanding to see their papers," Walz said.
He accused the Trump administration of conducting a "campaign of organized brutality" and criticized the response to the death of Renee Nicole Good, stating, "Instead of conducting an impartial investigation... the Trump administration is devoting the full power of the federal government to finding an excuse to attack the victim and her family."
Minneapolis Mayor called the situation in the city "not sustainable" while saying the conduct from ICE is "intolerable."
"And for anyone taking the bait tonight, stop. It is not helpful," Frey wrote on X. "We cannot respond to Donald Trump’s chaos with our own chaos."
Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche responded to the situation on social media by saying, "Minnesota insurrection is a direct result of a FAILED governor and a TERRIBLE mayor encouraging violence against law enforcement. It’s disgusting."
"Walz and Frey - I’m focused on stopping YOU from your terrorism by whatever means necessary. This is not a threat. It’s a promise."
