U.S. Sen. Jack Reed discussed the latest developments on the Trump administration’s tariff policies on Wednesday.

At the press event, he discussed the U.S. Supreme Court’s upcoming ruling and what that could mean for local businesses.

The lower courts ruled that President Donald Trump overstepped his authority with tariffs. The timing of the Supreme Court ruling remains unclear, and the policy remains in place in the meantime.

Reed said that Americans are feeling the burden.

"Now, Trump’s chaotic and reckless economic policies are raising prices and fueling inflation. Rhode Islanders feel it in their wallets, they see it in their bills," Reed said.

Reed also said regardless of the Supreme Court ruling, tariff complexity could likely remain under the Trump administration, which may increase prices for residents and businesses.

The senator said Trump also promoted tariffs as a way to better U.S. trade deals with our allies, but he claimed it has harmed the relations, citing Canada signing a new trade deal with China.
