(WJAR) — A New Bedford man has been sentenced to prison time for assaulting police officers last year.
The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office says 43-year-old Eli Zarate was sentenced to 2.5 years in the House of Correction.
Prosecutors say that on August, 1, 2025, Massachusetts State Police troopers stopped two people on a moped without helmets. The moped was determined to be unregistered and was going to be impounded.
That is when troopers alleged that Zarate attempted to obstruct the troopers by blocking them and grabbing at them. He is accused of getting into a physical struggle with a trooper.
