Johnston Police investigating shots fired incident involving a stabbing

The Johnston Police Department said it was investigating a shots fired incident that occurred on Starr Street early Saturday morning that involved a stabbing victim.

Police said the report came in around 3 a.m.

Officers responding to the area found several individuals who claimed they did not see or hear gunfire and were uncooperative.

The officers did find shell casings in the roadway, but determined no one was injured and no property was damaged other than a punctured tire.

An investigation found that an altercation occurred involving a pickup truck that fled the area and has shots fired at it.

The vehicle was found on Randall Street and Greene Avenue in Cranston. where the driver had sustained stab wounds.

The driver was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said the incident was believed to be targeted and there was no threat to the public.
