The Freetown Police Department announced the passing of Retired Chief Carlton E. Abbott Jr.

Officials said Abbott passed away unexpectedly on Monday, Jan. 19, after a brief illness at 66.

He was a founding member of the Southeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council.

Abbott served with the department for over 25 years.

He officially retired on June 30, 2023.
