Kiefer Sutherland arrested after alleged rideshare driver assault, released on bail

Actor Kiefer Sutherland is facing new legal trouble following an arrest in Los Angeles early Monday morning.

The “24” star was taken into custody after police say he allegedly made death threats and assaulted a rideshare driver, per TMZ. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, officers responded to a call just after midnight at the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue, where authorities say the actor had entered a ride-hail vehicle and became involved in a physical confrontation.
Police allege Sutherland assaulted the driver while making criminal threats. “The victim did not sustain any injuries requiring medical treatment at the scene,” officials said.

Sutherland, 59, was arrested at the scene and later released from jail on a $50,000 bond just a few hours later, according to jail records. His first court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 2.
The incident adds to a history of legal issues for the British-born Canadian actor. In 2007, Sutherland served time after pleading no contest to a drunken driving charge, following a prior DUI conviction in 2004. He has also had several other alcohol-related arrests dating back to the 1990s.

Despite past controversies, Sutherland remains a major figure in Hollywood. He is best known for his Emmy-winning role as counterterrorism agent Jack Bauer on Fox’s hit series “24,” a role he portrayed for nearly a decade across multiple seasons and spinoffs. His film credits include fan favorites like “The Lost Boys” and “Young Guns,” as well as acclaimed Rob Reiner films “Stand by Me” and “A Few Good Men.”
Sutherland is also Hollywood royalty as the son of legendary actor Donald Sutherland, whose career spanned more than six decades.
