Illegal migrant allegedly 'rammed law enforcement' in California, with agent firing weapon
An illegal immigrant "weaponized his vehicle and rammed law enforcement" in California, with an agent firing his weapon, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
In a statement posted on social media, DHS said the incident happened as officers were trying to make an arrest in Compton on Wednesday just after 7 a.m.
The agency said officers were conducting "a targeted operation" to arrest William Eduardo Moran Carballo, describing him as "a violent criminal illegal alien from El Salvador" who is involved in a human smuggling operation.
He has two prior arrests for "inflicting corporal injury on a spouse or cohabitant," DHS said.
"In a dangerous attempt to evade arrest, this criminal illegal alien weaponized his vehicle and rammed law enforcement. Fearing for his life and safety, an agent fired defensive shots," DHS said.
DHS said Carballo was not hit, but tried to run away from the scene. He was later arrested, per DHS.
The agency said a U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer was hurt during the incident.
"These dangerous attempts to evade arrest have surged since sanctuary politicians, including Governor [Gavin] Newsom, have encouraged illegal aliens to evade arrest and provided guides advising illegal aliens how to recognize ICE, block entry, and defy arrest," DHS said, adding that the "situation is evolving, and more information is forthcoming."

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt recently said officers with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) are facing a 3,200% increase in vehicle rammings. She also said they are facing an 8000% increase in death threats, as well as a 1,200% increase in assaults.
"Let me be clear, President Trump and his entire administration stand fully behind the heroic men and women of ICE, and will always uphold Law and Order in the United States of America," Leavitt said. "The deadly incident that took place in Minnesota yesterday occurred as a result of a larger, sinister, left-wing movement that has spread across our country, where our brave men and women of federal law enforcement are under organized attack."
Leavitt shared the news during a media briefing a day after an ICE agent shot and killed 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good during a raid in Minneapolis.
The agent, who has been identified as Jonathan Ross, fired his gun after Good allegedly tried to ram him and other officers with her SUV. Ross reportedly suffered internal bleeding when he was hit by her vehicle.
