According to city councilman Juan Pichardo, the fire claimed the lives of Emilia Severino and Yoel Morales. A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to support surviving family members through this challenging time.

Those who knew Severino told NBC 10 News that she was very kind and spiritual. Her two sons were visiting for Christmas when the fire broke out.

Severino's other son was also badly hurt in the fire. He remains in the hospital at this time.

"Our community as a whole will continue to provide that moral support, especially to the young man who has lost two loved ones," Pichardo said.

NBC 10's Mike Cerullo reports that a mother and her son lost their lives when fire swept through a home on Christmas Day.

Four families were displaced as a result of the fire, Pichardo said. A GoFundMe has also been set up to support those displaced.

Authorities have not released the cause of the fire.
