Child struck by car while riding bike in Fall River

A juvenile was struck while riding a bike in Fall River on Monday.
Police said a motor vehicle collided with the juvenile at approximately 3 p.m. at the intersection of President Avenue and Chestnut Street.
Officers said the juvenile suffered non life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local trauma center.
"It was terrifying," Marquies Davila, the 17-year-old high school student who was hit, said. "Honestly, waking up in that experience terrified me."
Davila told NBC 10 he was riding his bike in the area of Durfee High School and Spencer Borden Elementary School when the crash happened. He said he was crossing President Avenue at a crosswalk where a crossing guard was stationed.
"As soon as I saw the crosswalk, pretty much everything went black at that point, and I don't really remember what happened," he said.
Davila said he remembers waking up in the ambulance and later in the hospital. He's since been released and is now at home recovering with his family.
Longtime neighbor Bill Rose told NBC 10 the intersection has been the location of several crashes over the years. Rose said he believes a stoplight could help keep pedestrians safe.
"There's a lot of kids in the area. You just need to slow down around this area. I wish they would," Rose said.
Davila and his family told NBC 10 they're also hoping drivers slow down and pay attention, especially in school zones. They also said they're thankful for the crossing guard who they say tried to help.
"He was the first person to try to stop the car from coming towards me," Davila said. "Make sure you wear a helmet. No matter where you are, matter if it's through a crosswalk or across the street, make sure you wear a helmet because it can end up really bad."
The crash is under investigation. Police have not said whether the drive will be cited.
